California unclaimed property recovery

If you received my letter, start here.

I'm Adam Rasheed. I locate the owners of unclaimed funds held by the California State Controller's Office and file the paperwork to recover them. My fee is 10% of what you recover. Nothing up front, and nothing at all if you aren't paid.

You can also claim it yourself, free, at claimit.ca.gov.

How it works

Three steps. The state holds the money the whole time.

1

I find the record

Banks, insurers, former employers, and escrow companies that lose track of you must turn your money over to the California State Controller's Office. I search those records and identify the rightful owner. That's how I found you.

2

You verify, then we agree in writing

Check the property yourself at claimit.ca.gov. If you want my help, we sign a written agreement before I file anything. It states the exact fee: 10% of the recovered amount, everything included.

3

The state pays you. Then you pay me

I prepare and file the claim, supply the documentation the SCO requires, and follow up until it's resolved. If you recover nothing, you owe nothing.

The fee

What it costs.

My fee is 10% of what the state pays you. That is also the legal maximum in California, so no finder can lawfully charge more. It covers everything: the search, the paperwork, notarization guidance, and follow-up with the Controller's office.

There are no upfront costs, no hourly charges, and no fee of any kind if your claim isn't paid. You pay after the money is in your hands, not before.

Background

Who you're dealing with.

One name on everything

I'm Adam Rasheed, based in California. The name on your letter, this website, and the phone line all belong to the same person.

A registered California company

Golden State Recovery Co. is operated by Creatix, LLC, entity no. 202251015012. Look it up yourself at bizfileonline.sos.ca.gov.

The state holds the money, not me

I never hold your funds. The State Controller's Office pays you directly. My fee is settled after that payment, per our written agreement.

Questions

Common questions.

How do I know this is legitimate?

Three things separate a legitimate finder from a fake one: I ask for no money up front, the funds are held by the State of California rather than by me, and you can confirm the property exists at claimit.ca.gov before we ever speak.

How did you get my name?

Unclaimed-property records held by the State Controller's Office are public. I research them and locate the current addresses of owners and heirs.

Why wouldn't I just claim it myself?

You can, and for straightforward claims you probably should. It's free. People hire me when it's not straightforward: an heir claiming a deceased relative's property, a dissolved business, missing documentation, multiple owners, or simply no time to deal with a state agency. You only pay for that help if it works.

How long does it take?

The State Controller's Office processes claims on its own schedule, typically weeks to several months depending on the claim's complexity. I can't speed the state up or guarantee an outcome. What I can do is make sure the claim is filed correctly and completely the first time.
